Mid-year goal setting. Why not?

If I had to pick one thing I can’t stand most in this world… I would have a hard time deciding between liars and hypocrites. But I really want to talk about hypocrites. Specifically, nurses and other healthcare professionals that preach about healthy eating and exercise, but don’t actually follow those lifestyle behaviors. This kind of thing really gets to me. We need to be role models. If we can’t even eat right or exercise regularly, why should our patients? We need to set an example.

I eat fairly healthy. Well proportioned, rounded meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus occasional snacks of yogurt or almonds during the day. I don’t really eat out much or drink alcohol that often. And I rarely have soda (except the occasional Diet Strawberry Limeade from Sonic!). But honestly, I could exercise way more. I get a decent amount of steps in during the day (which I keep track of thanks to my fabulous pink fitbit zip!), but I by no means exercise in the way I should.

I WANT TO CHANGE THIS. So I’m setting a goal for myself: I will exercise at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. I will probably start with a brisk walk, gradually add in some jogging when I can and my knees tolerate it, and hopefully get back to the days where I could run and be comfortable. If you can believe it… I actually once ran 5k a few times a year and I was on the track team. I barely believe it myself.

It’s going to take some adjusting, considering the brutal coursework that comes with nursing school. But my health has to be of the utmost important. Without my health, I couldn’t be a nurse. Without exemplifying a healthy lifestyle, I can’t ask my patients to do the same. I’m going to attempt to journal what I did, how I felt, or anything else I can think of and maybe blog about it every now and then. We’ll see. I’m going to need all the motivation I can get. (Cause boy is nursing school exhausting…)

Thank you, Neutrogena!

Y’all. One of my biggest insecurities is the fact that I have skin that is oiler than normal [at least in my opinion]. I have tried all kinds of things in attempt to improve on this issue, but never had much luck… Until now! I finally found a product that I think is worthy of sharing with y’all:

Neutrogena Shine Control Primer

I spent $12.99 on this product. And I’m definitely not one to over spend on products that I’m only hoping will work out. But Neutrogena has yet to let me down, and that hasn’t changed. A little bit really goes a long way. I have a feeling this will last me a while; which I love.

So this primer has a rice protein technology in it that absorbs all the extra oil on your skin without being gross or greasy, as well as minimizes the look of pores. On top of that, it makes your makeup stay put longer [which I can vouch for]. I mean honestly. How much better does it get than that? And for only $12.99.

Any questions that are holding you back from purchasing it? Ask me! If I can answer, I definitely will.

Super Fantastic Target Finds

I mean, who doesn’t?

What gets even better is that I think I might love Target even MORE now. Yes, you read that right. MORE. Check out some of the awesome deals I found at Target today. I still can’t even believe it myself!

Cheetah print loafers: $20

Black sandals: $14

Pink and gray bowling shoes: $6

six dollar shoes

And yes, you did read that correctly. That was not a typo.

I bought what I am calling bowling shoes for only SIX DOLLARS.

By some luck of the draw, they were actually my size. I still can’t even believe it!

pink flower

Next comes this precious little pink porcelain flower that I found for only $8. It has a few chips, but nothing that is super obvious. I decided it was worth the small investment.

And finally, if you didn’t see from my last post. This $17 three shelf bookcase was an amazing steal and even more worth the price than this adorable flower. I honestly felt like I was stealing from Target by only paying $17. I swear, those shelves last for years and are so little maintenance, and dare I say, cute?

Classy Construction

So this morning my happiness with the outfit I ended up wearing to run errands was a lot closer to the dissatisfied side of the spectrum. Basically all morning I internally judged myself for what I had decided to wear as I shopped around for shelving for my bedroom.

But the weirdest thing happened. I had decided to assemble the $17 three shelf bookcase I had bought from Target (what a steal, might I add), which resulted in putting my hair up in a messy bun to keep it out of my face while I worked. Here’s where the weirdness occurred. I suddenly was in love with my outfit. I don’t know what happened or why that worked. But it did. I wonder if it had something to do with showing off more of the details on my shirt, which I absolutely adore, or simply because my hair was out of my face and my pearls were on full display.

Naturally this put me in a great mood so I completed my shelf and started adding some things to the shelves.

And so everyone knows, I’m working on an awesome post about the top five bloggers I find to be most inspiring for myself. Be sure to look for that later in this week! Hopefully sooner rather than later. I want it to be perfect and perfection takes more time than I wish it did.

Pink & Chambray

Chambray button up: Merona (Target) || Pink patterned chino shorts: Merona (Target) || I am also wearing my pink Heather watch by Fossil and crystal flower bracelet by J.Crew

I’m currently on the way to Houston Methodist Hospital where my grandmother is being admitted into the ER for a heart valve issue. Which leads me to my question: what do you wear to visit someone in the hospital?

I thought, of course, something with a little color to be cheerful but not completely obnoxious and overstated. What better way to dim the brightness from these shorts than with a chambray button-up shirt? Agreed? Agreed. I also didn’t wear too much jewelry. And especially nothing too sparkly. I hope this suffices!

Sorry this has been so short but I am in love with these pink patterned shorts and I had to share them with you!

Changes are Brewing!

Recently, the most exciting thing has happened. Are you ready for this? I have become mildly extremely obsessed with fashion. I know. I can barely believe it myself. But I really want to do my best to see if I can make something of this new passion of mine.

This is my first attempt at any sort of fashion blogging blog-ness. Please give me a chance. I’m a quick learner.. But the first few attempts may be complete disasters. I like to call this look “Comfy Casual”. Why, might you ask? You guessed it. Because it’s comfy.. and casual. I know. I’m just so mindbogglingly creative.

Boyfriend shirt: Gap || Tiffany blue bubble necklace: Brina Box

Crystal flower bracelet: J.Crew Factory || Silver and gold crystal bracelets: Swarovski || Pink leather Heather watch: Fossil || Ichthus bracelet: James Avery Jewelry

Well.. How did I do? I hope good. Or at least decently. I honestly have no idea what I’m even doing at this point. I’m just going with the flow.

However, I decided.. Bring on the reorganization of Sweet Southern Sass blog! While I will continue to divulge the numerous, random, and sometimes disturbing thoughts in my posts, I will also have the occasional posts dedicated to an outfit that I deem to be worthy. {Side note: That means basically every outfit that I put any effort in to.}

Along with adding some fun fashion content to my posts, I will also do my best to make this place look legitimate so people aren’t embarrassed to visit this blog. Any suggestions? I’m thinking about an About Me page, a Contact Me page, ..but that’s about as far as my ideas go.

In the mean time, I will be experimenting with different changes on the blog. Please don’t fret. I will attempt to calm this massive blog storm as soon as possible. AKA when Sweet Southern Sass blog has accomplished perfection.

So I had this idea…

As I’m conditioning the mane of hair on my head with a enormous dollop of conditioner, an idea struck me… Now, this might sound totally crazy and unlike me… But I think I’m going to cut my hair.

Not like a short little hairdo or anything weird like that. I mean, I want people to know I’m a girl. But an inch or two below my collarbone? I seriously can’t even believe I am admitting this right now. That’s how big of a deal it is.

I’m not even kidding. This is a HUGE deal. I am obsessed with my hair. And I’m obsessed with having long hair. But with the massive amounts of super fine hair that I have, plus the unforgiving weather in Texas, I think this is the best choice. I can wear it in all it’s natural, wavy glory if I shower at night or *GASP* I could even shower during the day and blow dry it straight.

Did Hell just freeze over?

This whole thought process started an ordeal where I had to find out where this whole idea came about. Then it hit me. COURTNEY KERR CUT OFF HER HAIR TOOK OUT HER EXTENSIONS. Voila!

Side note. I might have a tiny little girl crush on Courtney Kerr. And I’m absolutely fine with that. I mean honestly, can you blame me?

Basically, I am going to have to think about this a little more and get pre-approval from a very important person in my life.

Until next time, lovelies!
